Where were you born and where did you grow up?
I was born in Kearney, Nebraska. I grew up in Norfolk & Holdrege, Nebraska, two very small towns. Most people in my family are farmers and teachers.
What was the first thing you remember painting?
Unicorns. I was very young and LOVED unicorns.
What painting were you creating when you realized this was your passion?
My junior year in college, I had an amazing art professor who asked us to keep a journal. Since I had a lot of dreams, I decided to write them down. It just seemed so natural for me to start painting my dreams. My professor was very encouraging even though I was going in a different direction than the rest of the class. I was on my own journey and he acknowledged that allowing me to explore. It was during this period that something clicked inside of me. I thought 'I AM A PAINTER! This is what I LOVE!'
What brings you the most inspiration?
By living a beautiful life. Sometimes just taking a walk, or feeling the sunshine on my face, or breathing in the air, just taking a moment to feel alive and connected to the people I love. Feeling good makes me want to paint.
What three things do you need when you sit down to paint?
My painting play mix playing in the background, the dishes in the sink done, and coffee with a lot of cream and sugar.
Where is your favorite place to travel?
Traveling for an art show is always the best. So far, Hawaii is my favorite. I also loved the buzz of New York.... I love places that are almost too overwhelming to take in.
What would you be doing if you were not an artist?
I have had fantasies about being a fashion designer or a lounge singer. The lounge singer idea is especially funny because I don't have much of a singing voice and being on stage in a spotlight is sort of terrifying.
